East Longmeadow has 16,430 people and is legally the Town of East Longmeadow despite a city form of government. It is one of the more affluent towns in the region, which changes the kind of work more than the amount of it.

The brownstone town

East Longmeadow's quarries supplied the brownstone that faced a great deal of nineteenth century building in the northeast, including a lot of what people picture when they hear the word brownstone.
