Granville has 1,538 people spread across a large, rural, wooded hilltown on the Connecticut border. It is best known outside town for the Granville Country Store and its cheese, and inside town for being quiet, hilly and a long way from anything.
Big properties, small population
The land area here is substantial and the population is not, which means large lots, long driveways and a lot of outbuildings. Barns, sheds, detached garages and equipment storage are where the work is, rather than in the houses themselves.
A barn clearance in Granville is several truckloads and needs a walkthrough before anyone quotes. It also needs a genuine pass for anything of value first, because rural properties tend to hold more worth keeping than the owner remembers.
Access is the planning problem
Long driveways, unpaved surfaces, and in some parts of town roads that a large truck has to think about. None of this stops the work, but it decides how it gets scheduled, so describe the approach when you call.
After a wet spell it matters more. A loaded truck that sinks or cannot turn around is a much bigger problem than anything it was there to collect.
Woodland and weather
Heavy tree cover means brush and storm debris are a steady part of the calendar. Yard waste has been off the Massachusetts disposal list since the early nineties, so it goes to composting or chipping rather than a landfill. It is priced by volume, and cutting branches down beforehand lowers the bill.
Granville is forty five minutes or so from the Chicopee base, which puts it at the outer edge of easy scheduling. It is booked regularly, and a few days of notice is worth more here than almost anywhere else on this list.
Camps and seasonal buildings
A lot of Granville is state forest and woodland, and the buildings scattered through it include hunting camps, cabins and seasonal places that get used a few weeks a year. Those hold decades of accumulation, because nothing is ever properly cleared, it just gets pushed further back.
They are also the properties where access is least predictable, since the tracks in are often unpaved and not maintained for a loaded vehicle. Describe the approach honestly when you call. A truck that gets in and cannot get out is the worst outcome for everybody.
