Junk Removal in Ware, MA

Ware has 10,066 people and calls itself the Town That Can't Be Licked, a slogan that came out of the town buying its own mills when the industry left rather than letting them close. It sits on the Ware River at the southeastern edge of Hampshire County, on the way into Quabbin country.

Mill housing and mill buildings

The town center has the housing that was built for mill workers: closely spaced, older, multi family in places, with full basements and narrow stairs. Clearances there are priced by the stairs rather than by the volume, which is the opposite of how a suburban job works.

On buildings of that age, asbestos testing comes before demolition. That is licensed work under Massachusetts rules and no junk hauler should be disturbing it.

The rural half

Away from the center Ware becomes rural quickly, with larger properties, barns and long driveways heading toward the Quabbin. Those produce whole property clearances and a steady amount of brush and storm work.

Ware is thirty to forty five minutes from the Chicopee base, which makes it a comfortable booking with a day or two of notice.

Long held houses and the textile rule

Mill town housing tends to stay in families, and a house lived in for fifty years produces an extraordinary volume of clothing, bedding, towels and curtains when it is finally cleared.

Since 1 November 2022 none of that can be thrown away in Massachusetts. Textiles are banned from disposal, so it goes to donation or textile recycling instead. Textile recycling is the important half of that, because it accepts worn and stained fabric that no charity shop would put out, which is most of what comes out of a house of that age.
